One of the unique aspects of early season hiking in the Southcentral Alaska backcountry in 2009 was the snow melt patterns created by the ash fall from the Redoubt Volcano. Ash which fell during the winter, is now melting out and affecting how the snowpack is melting. Here the western Chugach Range shows the effect of the volcanic fallout.
