Can I catch a bus to Anchorage, Seward, Homer, Denali, Fairbanks or Skagway?

By Leon Unruh / Alaska.com
Several bus companies provide year-round and seasonal service linking Anchorage, Fairbanks, Homer, Seward and other cities. In addition, larger cities have in-town bus service.

Most bus lines will stop along the highway to drop off or pick up hikers, campers and cyclists. Make arrangements with the line first to ensure there's room for you and your equipment. Most of the buses carry a dozen or so passengers.

Pickups and dropoffs in town may be at hotels, hostels, bus stations away from downtown or at gas stations. Check with the bus line when you make your reservation.

Here are some sample one-way and round-trip fares. Summer fares may be higher than winter fares. Most service is daily, but some routes are run on alternating days. Reservations are recommended. The U.S.-Canadian border is crossed on routes involving Skagway, Whitehorse or Dawson City.

Four companies were used for these sample fares, which may change as time passes. Service from other lines is also available. ADBL = Alaska Direct Bus Lines, 907-277-6652. HSL = Homer Stage Line, 907-225-5930. PHE = Parks Highway Express, 888-600-6001. SBL = Seward Bus Lines, 907-563-0800.
