Outdoor Life names Kodiak 4th best for sportsmen

What's better, bagging a giant king salmon or a kokanee, the landlocked red salmon that rarely exceeds 14 inches? Federal biologists have a seen a sharp decline in the number of wolves at Denali National Park and the Yukon-Charley National Preserve.

In a little over two years, the wolf population has dropped from 147 to 59. That's a 60 percent decline.

Biologists say subsistence and sport hunting play a role, but the majority of wolf deaths have been from natural causes.

John Quinley of the National Park Service says moose, caribou and sheep populations have been fairly stable, so the decline in wolves is a mystery.
